My Inactive Real Estate License
A few years ago, while living outside of Orlando, Florida a friend and I decided that we were going to get our real estate licences. So we went to school and both passed the state exam. Now it is 3 years later and I am the proud owner for an inactive real estate license from the state of Florida. At the same time another friend went for her California real estate license and now she is in the same boat. When the market is good and you are doing well then keeping your license active makes sense but when you are in a slow market and not making money it does not pay to stay active.
In a way, when I found out that I had an inactive real estate license I was a bit disappointed in myself. I had a new career and somehow I got sidetracked when I wasn't selling as much. I had passed the exam and started a new career only to end up with an inactive real estate license and regrets. Because I have waited so long I am ineligible for renewal and if I want to get licensed again I will have to start all over. Though I do not mind taking the class and tests again because I have forgotten almost all of what I learned.
I do not like the feeling of having an inactive real estate license and I think I am ready to go back and do real estate school all over again. I have had an inactive real estate license for a few years but once I take the class and become active again I can either use the license in the state of Florida or take a short test in one of the reciprocal states and get a license there. I believe it is something like 40 states that have a short exam you can take to become active in that state.
For now though, I will need to do something about my inactive real estate license in the state of Florida where I currently live. I am going to go back to real estate school and start again. I am quite sure that some of the laws have changed over the last few years and with all of the changes in the mortgage industry this should be quite interesting. I will no longer have an inactive real estate license in my possession but an "active" license that I can use to go back to a career that I really enjoyed.
