Real Estate License Reciprocity

Requirements For Real Estate License Reciprocity

As a licensed real estate agent in the state of Georgia, I am now confronted with the issue of real estate license reciprocity. My family is moving to North Carolina and I want to continue my real estate career after the move. Looking on the internet I have learned that many different states have real estate license reciprocity agreements. These can vary depending on the terms of the arrangement but there are some options out there.

It turns out that for my situation, North Carolina does have a real estate license reciprocity arrangement with the state of Georgia. It is my understanding that I will have to show proof that my current license is active, I will pay a fee, and I will have a background check. I must also be hired by a broker in the state of North Carolina. When my friend, who is a real estate agent, moved from Florida to New Jersey she was required to take a short test but that was all. The real estate reciprocity arrangement between those states was a bit different but she did not have to start all over again with real estate school.

Real estate license reciprocity agreements between states are very helpful for licensed, active agents. Numerous agents have a license in more then one state for a variety of reasons. Not having to go thru real estate school over and over is a good thing. For me, finding out that there is real estate reciprocity between my current state and my soon to be new home state made me very happy. As it is, I am due to take some online continuing education classes in order meet the requirements to keep my license active. As any agent knows there are continuing education requirements for all of us no matter where you hold your license.

I have also decided to apply the real estate reciprocity agreement after I move, to obtain a license in South Carolina as well. they also have tis arrangement with North Carolina and because we will so close to the state line i may be able to sell in both states. The real estate reciprocity arrangements could really be good for my career by opening me up to all of the Carolinas. That is a big market for me to take on as an agent.
